Rituals According to Vaikanasa Agama Vedi

Our daily worship rituals are conducted according to the sacred Vaikanasa Agama tradition, which has been preserved and practiced for centuries. These rituals represent the highest standards of temple worship and reverence for the divine.

Chandi Homam on Pournami

Full Moon (Pournami) every month

Chandi Homam is a sacred fire ritual dedicated to Devi Kamakshi Amman, performed on every full moon day. This ancient Vedic ritual invokes the protective power of the divine mother, ensuring the well-being and prosperity of all devotees.

Sankatahara Chaturthi Pooja

Chaturthi (4th lunar day)

This monthly ritual honors Sri Ganesh, the remover of obstacles. Sankatahara means "destroyer of afflictions," and this pooja invokes Ganesh's blessings for removing hindrances and facilitating spiritual progress.

Pradosham Pooja

Pradosham (evening of 13th lunar day)

Pradosham is dedicated to Lord Shiva and falls twice a month. The Pradosham hour is believed to be particularly potent for spiritual practices and the dissolution of karmic debts.

Hanuman Jayanti

Chaitra month (March-April)

The grand celebration of the birth of Sri Hanuman is the most significant festival at our temple. Devotees gather for elaborate rituals, discourses, and special abhishekam of the 33-foot Aanjaneya idol.

Maha Shivaratri

Phalguna month (February-March)

The great night of Shiva is observed with an all-night vigil of prayers and meditation. Rudrabhishekam is performed with milk, honey, yogurt, and other sacred substances.

Vasanta Navarathri

Chaitra month (March-April)

The spring Navarathri celebrates the victory of divine feminine energy over darkness and ignorance. Nine nights are dedicated to the worship of different forms of Devi Durga.

Sri Rama Navami

Chaitra month (March-April)

The birth celebration of Lord Rama features Ram Darbar Kalyanam, discourses on the Ramayana, and special pujas. Devotees participate in Rama nama kirtan.

Ganesh Chaturthi

Bhadrapada month (August-September)

The 10-day festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesh is marked by elaborate rituals, processions, and community gatherings with special modak offerings.

Sharada Navaratri

Ashwin month (September-October)

The autumn Navaratri is the most celebrated festival. Nine nights are dedicated to the worship of Devi in her nine forms, with Golu celebrations and the grand Dussehra procession.

Deepavali

Kartik month (October-November)

The festival of lights celebrates the victory of light over darkness. The entire temple is illuminated with oil lamps, and Lakshmi pujas are performed for prosperity.

Maha Athirudram

Once in 12 years (Grand ritual)

The most elaborate and sacred Vedic ritual in our temple, involving the ritual reconstruction of cosmic creation and the elevation of the temple to a higher spiritual plane.

Kanchi Kamakoti Jagath Guru Jayanthis

Birth anniversaries of Gurus

The birth anniversaries of the Kanchi Kamakoti Jagadgurus are celebrated with Vedic parayanam and discourses on Advaita philosophy, honoring the lineage of spiritual masters.

Aadi month (July-August)

During the sacred month of Aadi, special Bhagavathi Seva is performed daily with elaborate rituals invoking the protective and nourishing power of the divine mother.

Vilakku Poojas

Aadi month and auspicious periods

Vilakku Pooja is the ritual of lighting sacred lamps and offering them to the deity, representing the awakening of inner awareness and the removal of spiritual darkness.

Kumbhabhishekam

Once every 12 years

The ceremonial bath of the temple tower with water collected in a sacred pot, performed to renew the divine sanctity of the temple and rejuvenate its spiritual energy.
